The purpose of this ride was twofold.

David's primary motivion for embarking on this trip was to establish an initiative that both raises money and heightens awareness for cancer charities. David is cycling for cancer.

The research charity David rode for was The James Fund for Neuroblastoma Research at SickKids. The James Fund was founded in theThe James Fund name of a young boy named James Birrell, who ultimately succumbed to neuroblastoma at the age of eight. In an attempt to save James, the Birrell family started The James Fund for Neuroblastoma Research at The Hospital for Sick Children in order to find new treatment options which could save James from this rare and deadly form of cancer. Since his death in 2001, The James Fund has become Canada's leading neuroblastoma initiative and has helped The Hospital for Sick Children become a significant figure in neuroblastoma research on a global scale.

Secondly, David constructed this trip to show anyone who is battling cancer or may soon find themselves in a position to cope with the disease, that not only is it possible to survive, but after survival you can do anything you set your mind to. You only fail, if you fail to try.

You are able to follow the progress of David's trip on this site.
